STUDY PROCESS

The process of preparing the Estuary Management Plan (EMP) commenced in 1995 with the formulation of the Coastline and Estuary Management Committee. The Committee has already overseen the initial stages of the process, which included the Data Compilation Study and Estuary Processes Study.

Data Compilation Study

This study provided a scientific, social and economic review of the status of the Bellinger/Kalang River Estuary. Information compiled via this process forms a platform for completion of subsequent stages/studies. Bruce Fidge and Associates completed this study in 2000. The Data Compilation Study is available for downloading/viewing on this website, follow this link RELEVANT INFORMATION & PUBLICATIONS.

Estuary Processes Study

This study involved the preparation of a number of process studies designed to fill in identified knowledge/data gaps from the Data Compilation Study. The Estuary Processes Studies also expanded the local knowledge base in relation to both physical and ecological processes in the estuary. Lawson and Treloar completed this study in 2003. The Estuary Processes Study is available for download/viewing on this website, follow this link RELEVANT INFORMATION & PUBLICATIONS.

Estuary Management Study and Plan

The preparation of the Estuary Management Study and Plan is the final step in the Estuary Management Process. The Estuary Management Study/Plan was commenced in May 2005 and should be completed mid 2006. A draft Estuary Management Plan will be placed on public exhibition by Council and all submissions recieved will be considered before a final Plan is adopted.
